Starting high school? Starting college? A new chapter (even a new year) in your education is a big break! You have a whole new world ahead of you; you have a chance for a fresh start. So, how DO you control your own destiny?
- Choose who YOU want to be. Picture yourself the way you want others to see you, and be that person.
- Don’t believe that the grades and evaluations are things that happen TO you. Everything you do (or don’t do) impacts the results you get.
- Learn from your mistakes and successes. Look back and think about what you could do differently next time, and know when to ask for help. If something worked, do it again!
- Set goals, and remember that they can change over time.
- If you tend to PROCRASTINATE, get yourself going by choosing just one thing to start with. Worry about the rest when you have completed that task. Writing a paper? Putting words on the page, even just brainstorming, is a great way to get started.
- Don’t let fear hold you back. Keep your standards high, and don’t be afraid to try new things. Don’t be afraid to take control!
